Vinci - erfaringer med varianter?

Post by Frouvne »

This variant reduces the leader-bashing effect that comes from new Civilizations easily coming onto the board in ways that hurt the opponent of choice. It also offers deeper strategy, since attack and defense can be planned in light of known upcoming entry points.

------------------

o Number the legal starting provinces 1-19. I started in the northeast corner and went clockwise, writing the numbers on little dot labels.

o Each time a pair of Civilization tiles is drawn, roll a d20 and give that Civ a slip with the number rolled. This indicates the province at (or near) which the Civ will enter the board. If a 20 is rolled, give a slip that says "Any Edge" (ie any of the 19). When a player chooses a Civ, they should keep its number slip until their first expansion turn.

o Duplicate number assignments are NOT allowed -- make just one slip each for numbers 1-19, and multiples of "Any Edge". If the number rolled is assigned to a Civ that has not yet come onto the board, reroll.

o Mobility adjustments:
- Revolutionaries automatically get (and are limited to) "Any Edge". Specialized Revolutionaries get no slip and can start at any space on the board, as in the normal game.
- Astronomy may consider two provinces contiguous if they are connected by a *single* deep-water region. For Specialized Astronomy it's any number of adjacent deep-water regions, as in the normal game.

o The Guarantee:
A player will always be able to enter the board at a cost of 4 units or less, without causing a unit of their own declined Civ to vacate. If the assigned starting province does not fulfill the Guarantee, then a range of three *numbered* spaces centered on it are allowed. If none of those three fulfill the Guarantee, a range of five numbered spaces is allowed, and so forth. Once the range is determined in this way, the player may choose to enter the board at any of the spaces in the range.

o A Civ is not forced to use the Espionage ability (attack with two units, once per turn) in order to come onto the board in their assigned starting province. All other abilities are considered in determining the range of allowed entry points. Heritage, Weapons, Mountaineering, and Diplomacy may be relevant. An entering Diplomacy Civ may declare peace with the player occupying their assigned starting province in order to get a wider range.

o Civs that vacate all of their holdings, or are wiped off the board through the expansions of other players, may only come back onto the board on (or near) their originally-assigned starting province. The Guarantee is again used to determine the range of allowed entry points.

o Optional visual aids:
These help greatly with longer-term planning. Give a colored pawn to each player. Whenever that player selects a new Civ, place the pawn on their starting province, and remove it again when they come on the board. Put clear tokens (or some other unaffiliated color) on starting provinces for unchosen Civs. Note: during a redeployment action, only active Civs and colored pawns need considering; clear tokens can be ignored since it will take more than a turn for anything to happen on those spaces.

Har nogen prøvet den eller andre varianter, der kunne være værd at prøve?

leader-bashing - et godt eksempel på et begreb, det kunne være rart at få oversat til dansk! Hjælp mig venligst med dette og andre begreber via nedenstående link:
